Kamal Haasan against The Kerala Story. The Kerala Story directed by Sudipto Sen turned out to be controversial. Despite the controversy and the ban against the film in a few states like Kerala and West Bengal, the film did extremely well at the box office. The film entered into the Rs 200crs club and is still going strong.

In the process, the film became the first female-centric film that entered into the Rs 200crs club. The film starred Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, and Sonia Balani in the lead roles. In the meantime, Kamal Haasan, known for his strong views, speaking to scribes shared his thoughts against the Kerala Story.

Kamal said "I told you, I am against propaganda films. It is not enough if you write 'true story' at the bottom as the logo. It has to be really true. And that is not true." In the meantime, Adah Sharma expressed her happiness over the film's sensation.

She shared her feelings by posting  "1st Female Film to cross net collection India 200 Cr, without Tamil Nadu & West Bengal. "The best things in life are Unexpected - because there were no expectations. Thank you audience for making this happen. The makers of #TheKeralaStory: Vipul sir who took a huge risk in making this film without any backing from studios and for trusting the girl who played Bhavana Reddy in Commando to be Shalini Unnikrishnan (sic)."

She continued "Sudipto sir for standing by his research for 7 years despite all odds, for being kind to all of us on set and who kept up his pleasant nature in all weather conditions and trials and tribulations (sic)."
