Tollywood hot hunk Rana Daggubati teamed up with Sankalp Reddy and stole the hearts of all at the national level with India’s first underwater war film The Ghazi Attack in 2017. The film is based on the mysterious sinking of PNS Ghazi during the Indo Pak war of 1971.
Rana played the role of Lieutenant Commander Arjun Varma while Kay Kay Menon played the role of Captain Ranvijay Singh. In the film both Lieutenant Commander Arjun Varma and Captain Ranvijay Singh argue over the rules of the Navy and who should pass the orders and command the submarine. Sankalp Reddy showed couple of scenes about their arguments.
While it generated immense interest, many at that time itself felt that the makers have taken cinematic liberty and it did not go down well with the public and especially the families of the armed forces. This is in sharp contrast to Hollywood film Crimson Tide directed by Tony Scott in 1995.
US Navy did not give permission for the makers to shoot the film as they flouted many norms as per the sources. Denzel Washington starred as Lieutenant Commander, Executive Commander (XO) Ron Hunter while Gene Hackman starred as the Captain Frank Ramsey, commanding officer of the submarine.
They too have similar argument but later commanding officer Frank Ramsey calls Ron Hunter to his cabin and tells him that they can sort out the differences taking to each other rather than argue in front of the crew. He tells him that they are on a fight to save democracy (USA) and are not fighting for having democracy in the submarine. He tells him that the subordinates are trained to take orders and one shouldn’t confuse them with arguments.
Sankalp Reddy could have included such scene for more authenticity rather than concentrate on highlighting the arguments. Wonder why Sankalp missed this simple point.
