It has been nearly three months since no releases in theatres due to coronavirus. The entire summer season got washed away due to coronavirus and there are still no signs of theatres getting opened in the near future.

Under these circumstances, few producers are looking towards OTT platforms. With interest on the debts received from the financiers for the films increasing and the fear of content becoming old is now forcing the producers to consider OTT releases. Especially star heroes’ films in Bollywood are getting released in OTTs. However, Tollywood is not witnessing any crazy movie releases on OTTs.

In Bollywood Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn's films get Rs 200 crores at the box office in theatres. But now they are releasing their films on OTTs. Akshay Kumar, Raghava Lawrence's Lakshmi Bomb, a remake of Kanchana, is releasing on Disney Plus Hot Star. The same is the case with Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt's Bhuj-The Pride of India. This is also releasing on Disney Plus Hot Satr. Apart from it, Sushant Singh Rajput's last film Dil Bechara is releasing on July 24. Alia Bhatt's Sadak 2, Abhishek Bachchan's The Big Bull, Vidyut Jamwal's Khudafeez, Kunal Khemu's Loot Case, Vidya Balan's Shakuntala Devi are releasing on OTTs. But Tollywood is not witnessing the release of any crazy films.

Only small films like Amrutha Ramam, 47 Days, Krishna and His Leele, Bhanumati Ramakrishna and dubbing film Penguine released on OTTs. Sources say Tollywood producers are not daring to take the risk. The makers of Nani-Sudheer Babu's V, Vaishnav Tej's Uppena, Ram's RED, Anushka's Nishabdam, Anchor Pradeep's 30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela are not coming forward to release their films on OTTs.

Some say OTTs which are offering fancy rates for Bollywood films are not coming up with similar offers for Telugu films. OTTs feel that till now the Telugu releases did not get the required views and subscribers are also not increasing and so they are not coming forward to offer fancy amounts.

But what they are failing to understand is till now the films released on OTTs are small films without any craze. If big films release, automatically viewership and subscribers will increase. OTTs should think on these lines and this will make producers to come forward to release their films on OTTs.

In case of Tollywood films, OTT players are to be blamed, but not filmmakers. In fact, producers are ready to convince stars, if they get attractive offers!
