After Super Star Rajinikanth, if there’s any hero to stand on second position in Tamil Nadu, then it’s Thala Ajith. His new flick Vivegam starring Kajal Agarwal in female lead role released amidst huge expectations last month across the world has reaped losses even for Tamil Nadu distributors.
From first day of release, Vivegam’s dubbed Telugu version was also declared an outright failure. But trade circles were positive about movie’s performance in Tamil Nadu. However, at the end of its full run in Tamil Nadu theatres, Vivegam turned out to be a disaster owing to high rates sold at.
Vivegam generated a theatrical revenue of 66 Crores gross in Tamil Nadu and is second highest grosser in Ajith’s career. Paradoxically, Vivegam has been acquired by Tamil Nadu distributors for a whopping 55 Crores excluding prints and publicity. Onto final shares, Vivegam reportedly ended up at 37 Crores leaving all the distributors and exhibitors in losses of approximately 18 Crores.
No wonder, if distributors go ahead on a competitive buying spree by keeping the hero’s past blockbuster collections in mind, obviously losses are bound to happen when the film flops. In fact, this trend is going on from a long time and unfortunately will continue even in Telugu as what’s happening now with Jai Lava Kusa and Spyder.
