CM endorses use of Telugu in judiciary

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday endorsed the proposal to implement Telugu language in judiciary.

Addressing a seminar ‘Telugu-lo Nyaya Palana’ jointly organised by the Official Language Commission and the Centre for Education of Law at Jubilee Hall, the Chief Minister asked the Judicial Academy to come out with recommendations for implementation of Telugu language in judiciary. Giving an assurance that the recommendations would be accepted, he stressed the need for translation of law literature in Telugu language.

The Chief Minister said that the proposal was not aimed at separating English from the judiciary, but at connecting Telugu from the legal processes. He said implementation of Telugu language would be helpful for the petitioners, respondents and the practitioners of law. He also exhorted the children to learn Telugu along with English.

Chief Justice PC Ghosh also stressed the importance of adoption of Telugu in legal procedures. Citing an example, he said Bengali was being widely used across the courts in West Bengal. He also said that German and French nations too were giving top priority to their language.

Andhra Pradesh Judicial Academy Chairman and High Court Judge Justice LV Ramana highlighted the importance of promoting Telugu shorthand and computer softwares.

Official Language Commission Chairman Mandali Buddha Prasad said that people’s faith and understanding in the law would increase further if judgments are delivered in Telugu language.

Tourism Minister Vatti Vasanth Kumar and Law Minister Erasu Pratap Reddy also addressed the seminar.
