The Telangana Congress Monitoring Group on Sunday asked the Centre to hasten the process for formation of Telangana State.
Talking to reporters after giving a representation to Union Minister Manish Tiwari at Gandhi Bhavan, TCMG organiser and PCC General Secretary G Niranjan said that an early decision on the statehood issue would put an end to the suicides by youth. He said that the Union Minister was given a detailed representation on the recent suicides in the region for the statehood cause which was the result of statement issued by Central leaders on January 27.
"We request you to carry the message forward to the High Command and UPA Government to resolve the long pending and genuine demand for separate statehood Telangana. The people of Telangana fighting for separate State for the last several decades. About 350 people died in the 1969 Telangana Agitation and more than 1,000 youth and students died in the recent agitation for separate statehood," the TCMG leaders said in their representation.
"Several gentlemen agreements, formulae and packages during last six decades proved to be futile. The urge of the people for Telangana is remained same, in spite of all efforts to keep the State United. An early decision, in this regard, will save the further sacrifice of lives," they said.
Besides Niranjan, PCC Spokesperson B Kamalakara Rao, Intellectual Cell chairman A Shyam Mohan and Doctors Cell chairman Dr D Shankar were also present.
