Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha Member K Kesava Rao on Thursday stated that MPs of this party are ready to resign from Parliament for the cause of Telangana state formation.

Talking to media persons at a dharna organized by Telangana Journalists Forum at the Jantar Mantar here, Mr Kesava Rao urged Telangana leaders of political parties to leave aside their party agenda and unite to make a collective push for a separate state. “We should make collective efforts for a separate state. All leaders from Telangana should unite to take forward the separate statehood agitation,” the senior leader said.

Mr Kesava Rao further added that the elected representative should respect the aspirations of the people. “I am confident that the dream of a separate Telangana will be fulfilled in 2011,” he stated.

His party MP Manda Jagannatham demanded that the Centre should make an announcement by June 1 on Telangana. “The Centre should stand by its promise of making an announcement after elections to five states Assemblies conclude. The election process is now over, we demand a decision,” Mr Jagannatham said.

He also warned the Centre of unforeseen consequences if it fails to announce a decision on Telangana state soon.

Bharatiya Janata Party official spokesperson Prakash Javedkar stated that his party favoured bifurcation of the state and all BJP MPs would help the Centre pass the Telangana Bill if it is introduced in Parliament.

Demanding introduction of the separate statehood Bill in Parliament, Telangana People’s Front chairman and noted Balladeer Gaddar expressed solidarity with the Telangana Journalists Forum.

Swamy Agnivesh, Telangana Rashtra Samithi Floor leader Etela Rajender, TRS MLAs Harish Rao and K Taraka Rama Rao, Congress MPs and other leaders participated in the agitation.
