Jailer 2 Sparks Buzz Over Rajinikanth’s Reported Certification Demand

Superstar Rajinikanth and Nelson Dilipkumar’s Jailer 2 is among Tamil cinema’s biggest upcoming releases. Produced by Sun Pictures, the sequel is scheduled to hit theatres worldwide on October 15, 2026. Reports have now triggered fresh discussion over its certification and the level of violence planned in the action entertainer.
As per reports, As Jailer 2 has received an A certificate, prompting speculation that Rajinikanth wants the makers to explore a U/A certification. However, his publicist Riaz K Ahmed has reportedly dismissed claims that the actor imposed such a condition, saying official updates will come from Sun Pictures.
The certification buzz gained momentum because Rajinikanth’s 2025 film Coolie also received an A certificate, restricting children from theatrical screenings. The decision surprised fans, as Rajinikanth’s films traditionally attract audiences across age groups. Industry observers noted that an A rating can limit family attendance, although Coolie still delivered strong box office numbers.
Jailer 2 reunites Rajinikanth with Nelson after their blockbuster collaboration, with Anirudh Ravichander returning as composer. Reports have pegged the production budget between ₹250 crore and ₹350 crore, while the film has also reportedly secured a ₹160 crore OTT deal. The sequel’s massive scale and star power have intensified expectations.
