Media Baron Ramoji Rao breathes his last.Cherukuri Ramoji Rao, the media baron and movie mogul who built a cinematic empire from the ground up, passed away in the early hours of Saturday at the age of 87.

Ramoji Rao, who was hospitalized on June 5th after suffering from high blood pressure and breathlessness, was admitted to Star Hospitals in Nanakramguda, Hyderabad.  Doctors implanted a stent in his heart and placed him on a ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit.  He passed away at 4:50 am after his condition worsened. Rao had successfully overcome colon cancer a few years prior.

Born into a humble agricultural family in Pedaparupudi village, Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh, on November 16, 1936, Ramoji Rao's journey to becoming a media magnate is an inspiring testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and unwavering ambition.  He established Ramoji Film City, the world's largest film studio and theme park, solidifying his legacy as a visionary.

His business acumen extended far beyond filmmaking, encompassing a diverse range of enterprises. He founded Margadarsi Chit Fund, Eenadu Newspaper, ETV Network, Ramadevi Public School, Priya Foods, Kalanjali, Ushakiran Movies, Mayuri Film Distributors, and Dolphin Group of Hotels.

Rao's influence in Telugu politics was undeniable. He enjoyed close relationships with many state and national leaders, who often sought his counsel on significant matters.  In recognition of his immeasurable contributions to journalism, literature, cinema, and education, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian award, in 2016.

His journey into filmmaking began with the 1984 blockbuster romantic drama, Srivariki Premalekha.  He went on to produce numerous classic films, including Mayuri, Pratighatana, Mouna Poratam, Manasu Mamata, Chitram, and Nuvve Kavali. His last film as a producer was Dagudumootha Dandakor, released in 2015.

Ramoji Rao's passing leaves a void in the Indian media landscape.  His pioneering spirit and unwavering dedication to his craft will continue to inspire generations to come.
