Hyderabad’s prime tourist location and best chosen spot for IT employees around Hi Tech city and Madhapur is Durgam Cheruvu. The fresh water lake built by Qutb Shahi Dynasty rulers lied in between Mahdapur and Jubilee Hills was meant to serve the drinking water for Golkonda fort. This is also known as Secret Lake.
A special attraction of Hyderabad is now struggling to remain in its area with unauthorized constructions coming up in nearly 60 acres of Durgam Cheruvu. Actually, the lake was spread in over 160 acres when it was constructed by Qutb Shahi rulers. Now, the lake’s span is just 100 acres which means the value of encroached land and illegal constructions came up there are in the tune of Rs.1100 Crores.
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and Telangana State Legislative Assembly Estate Committee Chairman Solipeta Ramalinga Reddy inspected Durgam Cheruvu and Rangadham Cheruvu, Kukatpally two days ago following a detailed report mentioning on several colonies were constructed in the full tank level and buffer zone of the lake. If the similar situation continues, Durgam Cheruvu will no more be seen in Hyderabad map.
