Naidu blames officials’ laxity for flood havoc

Kurnool, Oct 10 :

The Opposition and Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu has blamed the officials’ laxity for causing massive flood havoc in the state. Conducting aerial survey in the parts of flood hit Kurnool district on Saturday, the Opposition leader said that the irrigation officials have failed to estimate properly the inflows and outflows of water from the dams. If they could have estimated water flow in dam properly, the loss can be minimized to the property, he added. The callous attitude of Kurnool district administration and Repalle have played havoc with the lives of thousands of people and caused lot of damage to the property, he pointed out.

The irrigation officials are ignored the two warnings issued by the Central Water Commission (CWC) clearly pointing out that the Tungabhadra was on a record-breaking fury and that everyone living on its either side needed to be evacuated immediately, he said. He alleged that the Minister for Irrigation Ponnala Lakshminarayana was unfit for the Minister’s post and the Chief Minister K Rosaiah and officials are spending their time wastefully not responding to flood victims’ woes. The Chief Minister should have convinced the Prime Minister to declare flood fury in state as ‘national calamity,’ he said. Why he did not press for declaring flood fury in state as ‘national calamity,’ he questioned Rosaiah
