Is PM Narendra Modi hiding his failure with his unique style of gimmicks? According to critics and the heads of opposition parties the answer is 'yes'. What's that failure of Modi and what sort of gimmicks he resorts to? Are critics right? Let's go for an analysis.

Having called for one day Janatha Curfew, Modi alerted people to get accustomed to lead lives in lockdown period. Afterwards, he announced 21-day nationwide lockdown which was never experienced by any generation in the history.

Experts and scientists analysed that India would be the least affected country with the spread of coronavirus pandemic owing to its hot weather conditions. And true to their research, no community transfer of virus was recorded. Right now, the total number of coronavirus positive cases stand around 40K which is much lesser than the count of the USA and the European countries. On the other hand, Rs.35000 crores of economy per day is being lost by the nation with the lockdown.

In spite of these setbacks, Modi proclaimed lockdown 2.0 for 19 days. Critics felt the extension is absolutely a disastrous decision. The Congress party's former president Rahul Gandhi said, "Coronavirus can be managed but not contained," hinting that lockdown 2.0 would be a futile exercise.

The lockdown 2.0 period ends today but there is no containment of the virus. Instead, the total number of cases for the last two days registered a maximum spike. The number was 2400 yesterday and it's 2600 today.

Like a slap on the face, the union government imposed lockdown 3.0 for two more weeks. "This is a mere waste decision," say the observers adding, "Migrant workers, daily wagers, middle and below middle classes have suffered to an extremity with the lockdown."

At this juncture, some of Modi's decisions were torn apart by the detractors as just 'Gimmicks'. "Clapping hands, lighting diyas and showering petals from choppers on the doctors and health staff are rather dramatic than to marking respect on the personnel who are fighting against corona. Had the government had  that respect on the doctors, health and sanitary staff, it could have provided adequate number of accessories and would get them relieved of financial burdens," opines a critic.
