Tollywood always takes pride in churning out the highest number of films every year in the country. But many feel in its quest for quantity, Tollywood lost its credence over quality.
Though many filmmakers of late realized this and top stars too are coming with creative entertainers, theatres are empty and with many films bombing at the box office, Tollywood is currently in ICU on life support bereft of success oxygen.
With small films that form most of the Tollywood releases bombing at the box office, those associated with the industry are experiencing tense moments and sleepless nights as they are plunging in losses.
It is a known fact that though top stars films power and catapult Tollywood to another level, small films act as the foundation for the industry. If they do not perform well, then on weak foundation, one cannot expect to do wonders.
This year many small films failed at the box office and in the last three months, none of the small films impressed movie lovers. While multiplex theatres are in a little better shape due to Hindi and English film occupancy, single-screen theatres are facing the burnt.
Thippara Meesam, Tenali Rama Krishna BA BL, Meeku Maatrame Cheptha, Chanakya, Evvariki Cheppadu, RDX Love, Krishna Rao Super Market, Malli Malli Chusa, Operation Gold Fish, Rajugari Gadhi 3 and Aviri are among the few which disappeared without any trace.
This is decreasing interest among movie lovers on the upcoming releases. Only Saaho, Sye Raa, F2, Maharshi, iSmat Shankar, Rakshasudu, Majili, Chitralahari, Gaddalakonda Ganesh, Jersey performed well to some extent.
Small films like Agent Sai Srinivasa Atreya, Brochevarevarura, Oh Baby, Evaru did good business. Others like NTR biopic, Vinaya Vidheya Rama, Mister Majnu, 118, ABCD, Sita, Kalki, Dear Comrade, Manmadhudu 2, Gang Leader, Chanakya turned out to be disasters.
For Christmas Venky Mama, Ruler and Prati Roju Pandage are releasing while for Sankranthi Sariler Neekevvaru, Ala Vaikunthapurramloo and Entha Manch Vadavura are hitting the screens.
Let’s hope films releasing in these two seasons will break the shackles!
