Kollywood Star Karthi recently attracted with his powerful performance in the bilingual entertainer Khakee (Theeran Adhigaram Ondru) directed by H.Vinoth. The film attracted all with high voltage action scenes and tribute to police in real life.
In the midst of all this it is comingout that a plea has been filed in the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court by the De-notified Tribes Welfare Association, Madurai seeking interim stay on the screening of the film till the objectionable scenes are removed.
It is known that the film Khakee had scenes depicting the de-notified tribes in a bad light. They also demanded 50% of the revenue of the film to be paid for the welfare activities of the tribes. Justice R.Mahadevan adjourned the case to 5th December.
M. Pasumpon, petitioner and coordinator of the association alleged that the makers didnot verify the historical records and facts and showed the denotified tribes as born criminals insulting them to the core. He said according to the First Backward Classes Commission in 1955 under the Chairmanship of Kaka Kalelkar had recommended that the word ‘Criminal Tribes’ not be used. The National Human Rights Commission in 2000 had recommended the repealing of the Habitual Offenders Act, 1959, and the Centre for Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) in 2007 had also recommended the same.
