During his media interactions before the release of 'Baahubali', director Rajamouli said he got inspired from 'Amar Chitra Katha' for making movies based on mythological and fantasy elements.
However, having gone through the stories of 'Chandamama' magazine during the period of 1950s and 60s, it was felt that Rajamouli's 'Baahubali' could have been an inspiration of 'Chandamama' stories.
Some of the stories of 'Chandamama' usually start off like this; " Once upon a time there lived a great king. He had two sons and both became well skilled when they attained youth. Now, the king got a dilemma whom to be chosen the successor of his. Finally, he decided to test the bravery and wisdom of his sons..." and the story goes on. Similarly, 'Baahubali' also has the story which has similar features of 'Chandamama' stories. This is not to criticize Rajamouli but to advise our filmmakers to make wonderful folklore films which are based on 'Chandamama' stories.
Some more books which give us great ideas on the making of folklore films are 'Kasi Majilee Kathalu', 'Bhati Vikramarka Kathalu', write ups of Seethamsetty and other folklore stories specialists etc. Vithalacharya's movies also give us great stuff for making of fantasy films.
