Kangana Ranaut Slams "Animal" for Glorifying Violence and Drug Abuse

Kangana Ranaut has once again ignited controversy, this time taking aim at Sandeep Reddy Vanga's blockbuster film "Animal." The actress, known for her outspoken views, criticized the film for its depiction of violence and drug abuse, questioning the audience's acceptance of such themes.

"The kind of patriarchal films that still dominate the box office," she remarked during an interview promoting her upcoming directorial, "Emergency." "I wonder where these people who are clapping and whistling are coming from. Men are shown wielding axes and engaging in bloodshed and violence, seemingly without any consequences."

Ranaut specifically highlighted a scene where Ranbir Kapoor's character, Ranvijay, attacks his enemy with an axe and another scene where armed men enter a school, implying a disregard for law and order. She argued that the violence in the film is gratuitous and lacks any justification, serving merely as entertainment.

"They're just piling up dead bodies, for what? For fun?" she questioned. "It's not for public welfare or protecting borders; it's just for fun. They take drugs and have fun."

This isn't the first time Ranaut has criticized "Animal." Earlier, she had cautioned Vanga against offering her a role in his films, fearing it would "feminize" his alpha male characters.

While "Animal" has been a commercial success, its content has also faced criticism from other prominent figures in the film industry. Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar recently expressed his reservations about the film, describing Ranbir Kapoor's character as "problematic" and stating he wouldn't recommend it to anyone. His father, veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar, had previously voiced similar concerns about the film's portrayal of violence.

Farhan Akhtar, however, firmly believes in the freedom of artistic expression and doesn't condone censorship.

"Animal," featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, and Triptii Dimri, explores a complex father-son relationship and is currently streaming on Netflix.
