"Andhagan" Anthem Controversy: Santhosh Narayanan Denounces Song, Raising Questions about Film's Quality

The long-awaited Tamil remake of "Andhadhun," titled "Andhagan," is set to release on August 15th, but the film is facing controversy before its arrival. Music composer Santhosh Narayanan, known for his work on films like "Kalki 2898 AD," has publicly distanced himself from a promotional song, "The Andhagan Anthem."

Narayanan took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his dissatisfaction, writing, "For the first time in history, the audio label is also playing a blind character - method acting? FYI I don’t charge a fee to check if the actual music/lyric/arrangement/mix/master is actually mine. All The Best Of Luck." In a subsequent tweet, he clarified the issue, stating, "This is not the music, lyric, arrangement, mix, and master that I delivered…"

The song features vocals by Anirudh Ravichander and Vijay Sethupathi, and Narayanan was initially credited with composing, arranging, and programming it.

Fans, too, expressed disappointment, with one commenting, "Shame on the production house and the label, the true fan knew who you are sir." Another observed, "I felt the same, I know it's not yours... Its kind of D.Imman, Vijay Antony vibe."

The controversy surrounding "The Andhagan Anthem" raises questions about the film's quality and the production team's commitment to delivering a faithful adaptation.

"Andhagan," directed by Thiagarajan, the father of lead actor Prashanth, stars Simran, Priya Anand, Oorvasi, and Samuthirakani. The film will clash with Pa Ranjith's "Thangalaan" starring Vikram on August 15th.

"Andhadhun" has already been remade in Telugu and Malayalam. The Telugu remake, "Maestro," starring Nithiin, Tamannaah Bhatia, Nabha Natesh, and Naresh, was released in 2023. The Malayalam remake, "Bhramam," featuring Prithviraj Sukumaran, Mamta Mohandas, Raashii Khanna, and Unni Mukundan, released in 2021. Both remakes received mixed reviews and failed to impress audiences.

With the "Andhagan Anthem" controversy and the history of unsuccessful remakes, "Andhagan" faces an uphill battle in captivating audiences.
