Director General of Police (DGP) Rr Girish Kumar on Thursday claimed that efforts were taken to ensure a 'no-entry' to Shiv Sena activists on the State border and this led to the arrest of Sena volunteers who were proceeding to Salura Lift Irrigation project on the river Manjira in Nizamabad.
Emerging out of a review meeting on law and order situation, convened by Chief Minister K Rosaiah at the Secretariat, the DGP said he spoke to his Maharashtra counterpart over phone to ensure that the Sena activists did not cross their border.
Girish said the Maharashtra DGP promised to cooperate with Andhra police in ensuring peace in the border districts. Nizamabad Superintendent of Police has been instructed to take adequate preventive measures along the border.
Earlier, the Chief Minister directed him to make elaborate arrangements at the Salura project. As per the intelligence reports, 1,500 Shiv Sena activists were marching menacingly to Nizamabad but to no avail, he said.
Rosaiah has directed him to deploy additional forces at vulnerable points boardering Maharashtra. However, the situation is under control, he reassured. The Chief Minister also reviewed the security arrangements for the by-elections in Telangana, he added.
