New Delhi/Hyderabad, Jan 28: Succumbing to the pressure from all-parties Joint Action Committee, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday announced that ``a committee to study the separate statehood of Telangana will be constituted in the first week of February.’’"We are almost at the end of concluding that exercise. If all goes well, we should have a committee by the end of this week. We will announce the committee by next week," he told newsmen in New Delhi. The Union Home Minister also made it clear that the names being appointed to the committee are being finalized and an announcement on the details of the committee formation and the guidelines are being worked out.
Responding to the Telangana issue and meeting the deadline set by the JAC, Chidambaram said `` we have not gone back on the issue of Telangana, we are sticking to our word. ’’ ``I appeal to the students not to take the extreme steps of resorting to suicides,’’ the Home Minister added.``Our only concern is that normalcy should return in the State which will pave way for an early solution,’’ Chidambaram observed. However, reacting to the Centre’s decision to appoint a committee, JAC convener Prof Kodandaram said in Hyderabad that ``there is no clarity on the statement of Chidambaram.
