Minister for IT and Industries K. Tarakarama Rao on Tuesday said that the State Government was committed to provide safe drinking water to every household in the state as part of its ambitious project Mission Bhagiratha.

He said that the project would address the scarcity of drinking water and will provide relief to those affected by high polluted drinking water. He said that the project was going on right pace and assured that the government will complete it as promised. "We have promised not to seek votes in next elections if we don’t complete the project on time," the Minister said hitting at Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s assurance of completing the project on time. He also said that the government will provide internet connection to every household along with the Mission Bhagiratha project.

The minister said that as many as 714 habitats in the state are getting drinking water under the project and added that pipelines were being laid in 3,811 more habitats.  He said that by the end of 2017 all habitats will receive drinking water. KTR said that the project was getting laurels from various quarters for its better planning and execution.

Huzurnagr MLA and TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that there were several irregularities in awarding the contracts. He said that the government had relaxed eligibility norms to favour some contractors under the project. He also said that the TRS government was accusing the previous Congress government of serving the interests of Andhra industrialists and contractors but the TRS government itself was now awarding contracts to AP based contractors.
