Ysr Congress has demanded the State government to immediately pay compensation to farmers affected in the cyclonic storm which left a trail of devastation and destruction in the coastal districts.

Speaking to media at Cheyyuru village of Mummidvaram assembly constituency near here, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “We demand the state government to pay a compensation of Rs 10,000 per acre to farmers who lost their crop due to the cyclone and waive loans to all the affected farmers.

Fresh loans should be sanctioned to the farmers and an input subsidy of 75% should be given to enable the farmers to recover from the distress as they were bearing the brunt of two cyclones which came in quick succession while a third one is brewing .“

Castigating the officials and state government for its indifferent attitude towards the farmers whose hopes were damped by the two typhoons Phailin and Helen, YS Jagan Moahn Reddy said, the two cyclones have ravaged the crops and hit the farmers very hard.

The insensitive State Government has left the farmers in the lurch and not a single official has come to the field to take note of the damage caused even five days after the cyclone cross the coast.

“It is very pathetic to note that the compensation and relief of Phailin storm was not paid yet. No officials have come to assess the present loss. The state machinery has not given rice, kerosene and other essential commodities which are mandatory.

This shows the apathy of the State Government towards farmers who have put in Rs 20,000 per acre and the crops have been totally damaged. The Government should wake up from his slumber at least now and farmers should be adequately compensated, he said.

Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is on a two-day visit of the cyclone affected areas, interacted with farmers who had shown him the damaged crops and ravaged fields in Kothapeta, Amalapuram, Mummidivaram, P Gannavaram and Razole assembly constituencies in East Godavari district.

He will visit the affected areas in West Godavari district tomorrow.
