Former Chief Minister Nadendla Bhaskar Rao on Wednesday accussed the Congress leaders from the Telangana region of trying to gain political mileage over the statehood issue.

Talking to reporters at Gandhi Bhavan, Bhaskar Rao said that the Congress party has already clarified its stand on Telangana and all leaders from the State have announced that they would abide by the decision to be taken by Congress President Sonia Gandhi. However, he said some leaders have joined the opposition parties to criticise the Congress party and its leadership over the issue. Condemning their behaviour, he advised the Congress leaders from the Telangana region to observe restrain and wait for the Centre's decision on the statehood issue.

The former chief minister also dismissed the reports that the Congress had weakened in the State. He said the party was as strong as it was in 2004 and it would win the next elections with a comfortable majority.

Bhaskar Rao also welcomed Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s decision on Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs). He said that process of reforms would help the farmers and ensure the flow of investments through FDI to the tune of nearly Rs 2 lakh crore into the country. He claimed that the economies of China and Japan have developed primarily due to foreign investments. Therefore, he advised the opposition parties not to oppose the FDI and support the Prime Minister.
