Vijayawada, Oct 16: The government should formulate a uniform policy at national level to deal with natural disasters like floods, earth quakes and tsunamis, stated Lok Satta President Jai Prakash Narayan.Talking to media persons, after conducting a whirlwind tour in flood affected areas in Vijayawada on Friday, the Lok Satta leader said that the Centre should assist the State in formulating a comprehensive development plan to avoid such devastation in future. The Government should formulate a plan to translocate the people living on encroached lands along tank-beds, he added.

"We have no choice but to finalise a long-term strategy or else the disaster witnessed over the past week would recur again and again," he pointed out.The Government could constitute a high-level authority to monitor the implementation of translocation scheme and linking all the lakes and tanks, he said.He urged the Centre to set up advanced disaster warning system for flood-prone areas. He demanded the government to construct permanent houses for those who lost their houses in recent floods.
