Minor Irrigation Minister T G Venkatesh on Friday stated that the Congress Party has weakened in the State as the officials and party office-bearers failed to take the government's welfare schemes and programmes to the doorsteps of people.
Talking to media persons at the State Secretariat, he said that the Congress Party would have won the last by-elections if the party cadre would have popularised the schemes and programmes properly. “Even the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s launched many ambitious programmes for the benefit of poor and middle class people. However, Kiran Kumar Reddy and officials failed to take them before the people and popularise them,” he pointed out.
Venkatesh raised apprehensions that the Centre might take a favourable decision on formation of smaller states like Telangana if the YSR Congress Party wins majority of seats in the ensuing by-elections.
He said that Kurnool district meted out with major injustice in water sharing due to attitude of Telangana leaders. However, he said, despite all the injustices, the Rayalaseema leaders were working to keep the State united.
