Panchayat Raj Minister K Jana Reddy on Thursday rubbished the media reports that the members of Telangana Congress Steering Committee were not actively participating in the by-elections campaign in Telangana region.
Talking to media persons at the Congress Legislature Party Office, Jana Reddy said that some Telangana leaders were not participating in the election campaign as they were busy in the Assembly session. However, he admitted that a few leaders have been keeping distance from the campaign due to certain prevailing conditions in the State.
However, Jana Reddy said that the Telangana leaders were not dragging their feet on the statehood issue. He expressed confidence that the high command would takes a favourable decision on the statehood issue by 2014.
Responding to controversy over his statement that nothing of short of a miracle could ensure victory for the Congress party in 2014 elections, he said that the media has misquoted his statement and it was wrongly interpreted. “I said that the Congress will come to power in 2014 by overcoming all hurdles,” he said.
Responding to some media reports that he would become Chief Minister from the Telangana region, he said “I am not aspiring to become Chief Minister despite having all qualifications. I will work to the satisfaction of high command whatever post it gives.”
