The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the Andhra Pradesh Government and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on a petition complaining that normal activities in the state have come to a standstill due to the Telangana statehood agitation.
The apex court bench headed by Justice G S Singhvi also issued notices to the Registrar General of the State High Court and Andhra Pradesh Bar Council on the petitioner's allegation that judicial activities have been adversely affected by the protests. The court sought a report by the High Court on the disruption of judicial work in the state in the wake of an agitation by a section of lawyers within six weeks.
The court also suggested the petitioner to withdraw his plea on the Telangana employees’ general strike as the courts would not interfere on one region's demand. The petitioner said the Telangana employees' general strike has been causing lot of inconvenience to people and sought apex court's direction to the State Government in this regard.
The court said that it would not direct the Centre to accept the recommendations of Justice Sri Krishna Commission recommendations on the controversial statehood issue. However, the apex court said that the petitioner can file objection in the court after the Centre declares its decision on statehood issue. The court also sought a report from the state government over the people’s suicides and damage caused to property during employees’ general strike.
The court also issued notices to the state government, Home Secretary, Director General of Police, TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao, Telangana political Joint Action committee chairman Prof M Kodandaram, Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee chairman Swamy Goud over a petition seeking compensation for the loss of property damaged during the general strike of employees.
