Condemning the statement by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy that Karimnagar district was more developed than Chittoor during the Chittoor District Centenary Celebrations which concluded yesterday, senior Telugu Desam Party MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy on Saturday reminded that this would have been a reality if the Pochampadu Irrigation Project would have been completed in 1952 itself when it was first proposed.
Mr Janardhan Reddy told media persons at the TDLP on Assembly premises on Saturday that the project was dragged on for years, thereby affecting the development of Karimnagar district and the Telangana region as a whole.
This was clear evidence of the bias against Telangana by successive government led by Seemandhra leaders, Mr Janardhan Reddy stated.
Apart from the Pochampad Project, Irrigation projects in Mahabubnagar district too suffered under the successive Seemandhra leaders’ governance, the TDP leader stated.
If the irrigation projects that were envisaged for Telangana were implemented properly, the region would have been the most developed in the state, but this was not done by the Seemandhra leaders, Mr Janardhan Reddy alleged.
“The sustained bias and discrimination in implementing projects and the reluctance of Seemandhra leaders to develop the Telangana region is the main reason behind our demand for a separate state,” Mr Janardhan Reddy stated.
He also lamented that the lack of development on the irrigation front in Telangana was never even raised during the recent Budget Session of the Assembly, despite the Sessions being adjourned over the separate statehood issue.
