Communist Party Of India (Marxist) state secretary B V Raghavulu on Sunday appealed to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to sanction compensation for crops damaged in the recent rains during the Racha Banda, a programme to address people’s problems, set to begin on January 24 across the state.
Talking to media persons after submitting a memorandum to Chief Minister at the Camp Office, the veteran communist leader stated that the condition of farmers in the state was pathetic and they were helpless due to officials’ indifferent attitude.
In the Racha Banda programme, the government should give top priority for disbursing of compensation to rain-hit farmers and help them economically to resume farming operations, Mr Raghavulu pointed out.
“The government should sanction compensation and give moral support to increase the farmers’ confidence,” he stated.
The senior Left leader also urged the Chief Minister to focus on uplifting the poor and backward classes by implementing schemes for their benefit.
Referring to the Justice Srikrishna Committee Report, Mr Raghavulu said that the government should make efforts in developing backward areas by implementing special schemes and establishing industrial units using locally available resources.
The government should make efforts for constructing houses for Dalits and Girijans by implement its various housing schemes, he stated.
The CPM leader also added that the government should focus on addressing all people’s problems long-pending during the Racha Banda.
Mr Raghavulu revealed that the Chief Minister had given a patient hearing to his suggestions and had assured him that they would be put forward before the officials to act on wherever feasible.
Former MP Madhu was also present during the meeting with the Chief Minister.
