SIR Notices To Celebrities Ignites Controversy In Hyderabad

A fresh controversy has emerged in Hyderabad over Special Intensive Revision (SIR) notices issued to several prominent personalities. Reports indicate that names including VVS Laxman, SS Rajamouli, Mahesh Babu, Saina Nehwal, Mithali Raj and Pullela Gopichand have appeared on the list, raising questions about voter list verification procedures.

The reported list also includes actor Venkatesh and his two daughters, along with Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Vijay Deverakonda, Murali Krishnam Raju and Upasana Konidela. The notices are reportedly linked to discrepancies involving names, fathers’ names and voter record mapping. Importantly, receiving an SIR notice does not itself mean that a person is ineligible to vote.

According to the concerns being raised by voters, some individuals had already submitted the required documents but were allegedly asked to produce them again. Questions have also been raised about Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), particularly over delays in digitising documents and completing voter-record mapping.

The issue reportedly extends across Hyderabad, Medchal and Rangareddy districts, with complaints involving Kukatpally and Moosapet among other areas. In some cases, notices were allegedly distributed after the stated enquiry dates, while voters in Moosapet reportedly faced difficulties when the concerned ERO was unavailable. Officials have acknowledged operational errors and ordered accountability reports.
