Police on Tuesday resorted to a lathi-charge against activists of the Osmania University Students Joint Action Committee who tried to picket the residence of Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy and Union Minister of State for Urban Development Jaipal Reddy and arrested a few of them.

The activists were demanding that the Home Minister put an immediate stop to the recruitment test for aspirants for posts of Sub-Inspectors till free zone issue get resolved.

The police shifted the protestors to Banjara Hills Police Station.

The lathi-charge left OUS JAC leader Sudarshan with a minor injury to his head. He was rushed to hospital where he was given first aid.

The Home Minister had on Monday reviewed the security situation and had announced that the test will not be conducted in Hyderabad city, while it will go ahead as scheduled in the other districts of the state.

This announcement however was not welcomed by the OUS JAC leaders, who called for a bandh to all educational institutions in Hyderabad city.

In another related incident, the Telangana Students Joint Action Committee tried to gherao the residence of Union Minister for Urban Development Jaipal Reddy.

TS JAC leaders told media persons that they had targeted Mr Jaipal Reddy for not evincing any concern about the health of the seven aspirants to the SI posts who are on a hunger strike at the Osmania University Campus, even as their health is deteriorating with each passing day.

They protestors pointed out that the Union Minister is in the reckoning for the Chief Ministers’ post but has not shown any interest in solving the issues prevalent in the region.

They also condemned Mr Jaipal Reddy presence in the party hosted by Seemandhra leaders.

Police men lathi-charged the activists, arrested a few of them and shifted them to the nearest police station.
