The Principal Sessions Court in Bhupalpally, Telangana, has issued notices to BRS President and former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (Kcr), former minister T Harish Rao, and six others in a case related to alleged damages caused to the Medigadda barrage.

The case was filed by Nagavelli Rajalingamurthy, a resident of Bhupalpally, who alleged that the respondents acted hastily and without proper testing in the construction of the barrage, leading to the sinking of its piers in October 2023. He further accused them of misappropriating public funds, citing the visit of National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) officials and various politicians to the barrage, as evidence of the alleged misconduct.

Rajalingamurthy's petition, initially dismissed by a lower court for lack of jurisdiction, was then revised in the sessions court. He argued that the actions of the respondents constitute offenses under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating), 386 (extortion), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant).

The sessions court has now directed Kcr, Harish Rao, the then Special Chief Secretary of Irrigation, retired IAS officer Rajat Kumar, Principal Secretary Smitha Sabharwal, Chief Engineers B Hariram and N Sridhar, and two representatives of contracting agencies, M Krishna Reddy and Suresh Kumar, to appear before the court on September 5.

This development has raised concerns about the alleged irregularities in the Medigadda barrage project and the potential financial implications for the state government. The court's hearing on September 5 is expected to shed light on the case and potentially lead to further investigation into the allegations.
