On this significant day, 24th July, we celebrate the birthday of Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao, fondly known as Ktr, a dynamic and influential figure in the political landscape of Telangana. As the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and a dedicated leader, Ktr has proven his mettle not just as a strong political figure in the state, but also as a visionary with a commitment to innovation and development.
Ktr, born in 1976, is the son of K. Chandrashekar Rao, the founder of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now BRS) and a former Chief Minister of Telangana. He has held key ministerial positions in the state, including Municipal Administration & Urban Development, Industries & Commerce, and Information Technology. Ktr's tenure has been marked by significant achievements that have bolstered Telangana's standing in India and globally.
Ktr's education is a testament to his diverse interests and capabilities. He completed his schooling at St. George's Grammar School in Hyderabad, followed by a BSc in Microbiology, Chemistry, and Botany from Nizam College. His academic journey took him beyond India's borders to the University of Pune, where he earned an MSc in Biotechnology, and to Baruch College in New York, where he obtained a Master of Business Administration in Marketing and E-Commerce.
Ktr's political career began in 2009 when he won the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Elections from Sircilla Assembly Constituency. His dedication to the cause of a separate Telangana state led him to resign from the Legislative Assembly in support of statehood. In 2010, he successfully contested in a by-election and secured a win with a larger margin. Following the formation of Telangana in 2014, Ktr was elected as an MLA for the third time, leading his party, TRS, to a decisive victory and becoming the state's first IT Minister.
As the IT Minister, Ktr initiated projects that positioned Telangana as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. The establishment of T-Hub, the largest start-up incubator in India, is a testament to his commitment to fostering a thriving ecosystem for young talent. The incubator provides resources and support to over 300 start-ups and has been pivotal in creating a futuristic workspace for entrepreneurs.
Moreover, Ktr's initiatives in the Panchayat Raj system have aimed to strengthen grassroots governance, with plans to improve livelihoods and human development in backward areas. His Water Grid Scheme, part of Mission Bhagiratha, has been a game-changer in addressing the drinking water crisis in Telangana, attracting attention from other states for its potential replicability.
Ktr's contributions have not gone unnoticed, earning him accolades such as the Most Inspirational Icon of the Year 2015 by CNN-IBN and Ritz Magazine, and the Skoch Challenger of the Year 2015. His dedication to the IT sector led to his recognition as the IT Minister of the Year 2017 by Skoch.
