Rebutting claims of some leaders that the formation of Committee for Consultations on Situation in Andhra Pradesh (CCSAP) would not serve any purpose in solving the separate statehood issue, Ccsap Chairman Justice Bn Srikrishna said that recommendations of Commission would be useful and valuable for all regions.

Talking to media persons at Jubilee Hall on Thursday after holding discussions with Seemandhra leaders, Justice Srikrishna said that the Panel’s recommendations would give a direction to the Centre on how to proceed ahead with the contentious issue of the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

Justice Srikrishna said in Telugu, “Maa Dikku maalina Committee Kaadu, Panikirani Committee Kaadu, Paniki Wachchai Committee Maadi, Dikku chupe Committee maadi, Kendraniki Saraina Dikku Chuputam.”

Member-secretary VK Duggal said that the Commission would consider all views of people before presenting its recommendations to the government.

He said that the Commission would take a favourable and impartial decision, respecting the sentiments of people of all regions and submit its report before the deadline of December 31.

Mr Duggal said that the Commission would give complete details to media over the developments and the situation in Andhra Pradesh again in October.

The member-secretary said the Commission had received 1,20,000 representations from people of state. Of these, 3,000 memorandums have complete details and reasons why they are seeking separate statehood and opposing the bifurcation.

The Commission has completed 90-95 percent consultations work. If the members have any doubts over water, power etc, they can contact the concerned officials for details, he said. Mr Duggal also said that there is no chance of holding group discussions afterwards.

Reacting on the declaration of Hyderabad as Centrally Administered Area, Mr Duggal said that he had not made any remarks on it. The Commission has not made any comments on declaring Hyderabad as Centrally administered area, he emphasised.

The member-secretary said that the Commission is considering all possible avenues in its efforts to find a solution to the controversial statehood issue.

“The commission report is not final. The Centre and State have to take a final decision on the controversial statehood issue,” he pointed out. Mr Duggal added, “The commission would not succumb to any pressures while submitting its resolutions on the controversial statehood issue.”

Mr Duggal also advised the media to act in a responsible manner as the issue is both sensitive and emotive.

When asked to comment, the member-secretary said that the Commission has also taken the issue of Group I preliminary examination for consideration.
