Two intrude in Lok Sabha scaring all on Parliament attack anniversary.A significant security breach unfolded during Zero Hour in Parliament at 1:02 pm on Wednesday. Two individuals, each carrying smoke canisters emitting an unidentified yellow smoke, breached security by leaping from the visitors' gallery into the Lok Sabha chamber. Dramatic footage captured by the House's CCTV system revealed one man, clad in a dark blue shirt, skillfully evading capture by leaping across desks, while the other discharged smoke in the visitors' gallery. Quick action by MPs and security personnel led to the apprehension of both intruders.
At 2 pm, Lok Sabha resumed its proceedings, and Speaker Om Birla addressed the incident with a brief statement: "We are actively investigating the matter and have enlisted the assistance of the Delhi Police in the inquiry." Birla reassured the understandably agitated MPs, stating, "Both individuals, identified as Sagar Sharma and D Manoranjan, have been apprehended, and the materials in their possession seized. Additionally, the two individuals outside Parliament have also been arrested."
Disturbing visuals preceding the chaos showed a Lok Sabha official reading to the House moments before the intrusion. Suddenly, cries of "catch him, catch him" rang out. Key figures such as Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and union ministers Hardeep Singh Puri and Anupriya Patel were present during the incident.
The identity of the intruders, Sagar Sharma and D Manoranjan, was promptly disclosed. A recovered visitor's pass indicated that they were issued by the office of Pratap Simha, the BJP MP from Mysuru in Karnataka. Notably, any visitor must successfully navigate five levels of security before gaining access to Parliament.
Reflecting on the alarming breach, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram expressed his initial confusion, thinking someone had fallen from the visitors' gallery. He highlighted the gravity of the situation, noting, "It was only after the second person jumped that I realized it was a security breach... the gas could have been poisonous. One of the men was running to the Speaker's Chair. This is a serious breach of security, especially on December 13, the day when Parliament was attacked in 2001."
