KTR gets EC notices. The Election Commission has issued a notice to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao over allegations of visiting a government institution in Hyderabad and using the platform for political activities in the lead-up to the Telangana Assembly elections.
The notice, prompted by a complaint filed by Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala, accuses KT Rama Rao, a star campaigner for the BRS, of visiting the T-Works office and interacting with a substantial number of young employees on November 20. This visit allegedly occurred during the period when the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) was in effect due to the upcoming state elections.
The Election Commission, referring to MCC provisions that ministers should not combine official visits with electioneering work and should not use official machinery or personnel, noted in its notice that KT Rama Rao, being a contesting candidate in the upcoming assembly election and a star campaigner for the BRS, has prima facie violated the MCC.
The poll body has requested an explanation from KT Rama Rao by 3 pm on Sunday, emphasizing the violation of the MCC instructions related to the official visit and political activities at the government institution.
