Gautham Menon : Director Who Redefined Love Stories

Gautham Vasudev Menon, a director who made his mark with both love and action stories. He has carved a niche for himself with unique style of making. He earned cult following for his different style in presenting love and romance on-screen. Gautham Menon was earlier worked for Rajiv Menon for many ad films and for Minsara Kanavu (Merupu Kalalu). He became director with Minnale (Cheli) starring Madhavan, Abbas and Reema Sen. Harris Jayaraj was also debuted as Music Director with this film.  It became a smash hit and both Gautham Menon and Harris shot to fame overnight. Then with Kaakka Kaakka starring Suriya, Gautham Menon has entered into action genre. He presented a cop story with a fresh narrative and became a huge success. It was remade in Telugu with Venkatesh as Gharshana.

Then he made Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu with Kamal Haasan which is also a cop story and became a superhit. After a failure with Pachaikili Muthucharam starring Sarath Kumar, Jyothika and Andrea Jeremiah, Gautham Menon joined hands with Suriya for Vaaranam Ayiram, Surya S/O Krishnan in Telugu. The film received rave reviews and even won a National award as best Tamil film. In this film the love track between Suriya and Sameera Reddy showed Gautam's masterclass and his eye for dealing lovestories. Then he came with a full-fledged love story Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya starring Simbu and Trisha in Tamil while it was simultaneously shot in Telugu with Naga Chaitanya and introducing Samantha as Em Maaya Chesave. It became a cult classic love story. With this film Gautham Menon became a love story specialist. His next Eto Vellipoyindi Manasu starring Nani and Samantha in Telugu while it was simultaneously shot with Jiiva and Samantha in Tamil also won cult status. But, it was failed at the boxoffice. 

Gautham Menon after Ajith's Yennai Arindhal and Simbu starrer Achcham Yenbadu Madamaiyada in Tamil and Sahasam Swasaga Sagipo with Naga Chaitanya in Telugu, Dhanush starrer Yennai Noki Paayum Thota, became redundant in making films resembling his previous classics. But, Gautham Menon is still known for his refreshing style of making love stories with beautiful conversations and strong, natural depiction of female characters. He also started as an actor and is seen in many films recently in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam films. His latest Telugu film Ustaad starring Simha has released a special poster wishing him a happy birthday.
