Avatar: The Way of Water aka Avatar 2 which was opened on 16th December amidst huge hype and expectations has received with mixed talk. Everyone is raving about James Cameron Directorial's visual brilliance but complaining that it misses the thrill ride that audiences got used to with superheroes films. This seems the main reason why Avatar The Way Of Water is lagging behind Avengers Endgame and even behind Spiderman Away From Home at some places. Avatar 2 made $ 134 Million at domestic markets and $ 301 million from offshore boxoffice which takes its total to $ 435 Million in its first weekend. It is behind what Doctor Strange Madness Of Multiverse did this year with $ 442 Million in its first weekend. Avatar 2 stands at second place in highest grossers list of 2022.

It is way behind when it is compared to all time highest grossers. Avengers Endgame is at the top with $1.2 Billion on its opening weekend with a massive $ 350 Million in its domestic market. In China too Avatar 2 collected $ 57 million upto Sunday where it is expected to do $ 100 million. Whereas Avengers Endgame collected a whopping $ 330 Million in its opening weekend. The latest COVID wave related closures have costed heavily for Avatar 2 in China. On the other hand Avatar 2 is giving a right competition to Avengers Endgame in India. Avatar The Way Of Water has collected a gross of Rs 160 Crores for three days and stands at Top 2 after Avengers Endgame's Rs 182 Crores in initial weekend.

It is known that Avatar 2 needs $ 2 Billion to break-even. Going by the weekend figures it looks like a long way to go for the film to reach there. And even though the film fell short of projections going into its debut weekend at the box office, trade is saying taht there’s no reason to write it off just yet. Director James Cameron is known for his ability to draw audiences for repeat viewings and to theatres in large numbers. The holiday season is still going on till January first week with Christmas this week. It also doesn't face any major resistance as the next big film from Hollywood, Ant-man and the wasp: Quantumania  is slated to release after two months. So, there are bright chances for Avatar 2 to spring back and register huge numbers at the box office in the coming weeks.
