What's Behind

Nani's Ante Sundaraniki appealed to movie lovers with the unique feel-good title. The film directed by Vivek Athreya released today. Let us see what Nani offered to movie lovers with Ante Sundaraniki.

Story Review

Sundar (Nani) dreams of going to USA at any cost and he tries to convince his boss Chandramohan (Harshavardhan) and he seeks the support of his colleague Soumya (Anupama Parameswaran). In the process he starts sharing his personal things with them. To find out why Sundar is hellbent on going to USA and what is his relation with Leela Thomas (Nazriya Nazeem) and how Sundar's parents (Naresh, Rohini), Leela's parents (Azhagam Perumal, Nadhiya) are connected, watch Ante Sundaraniki on the screen.

Artists, Technicians Review

Sundar's story is revealed in a back and forth manner. His childhood scenes are shown and in a similar fashion Leela's childhood is shown and in the process, the family members of both Sundar and Leela are introduced. While viewers get interested in the beginning, slowly the interest decreases due to the slow pace of the narration and the story not taking off to the next level. The flat narration with little entertainment tested the patience of the viewers. However, the scenes involving Sundar and his boss Chandramohan tickle the bones of the viewers. The scenes showing the religious rituals in Sundar's family and his antics may appeal to a few but many find it outdated and some may even get hurt by the way the makers made fun of the rituals. Pre-interval, the story picks up the pace with a few hilarious scenes. The first half drags slowly towards the interval leaving the viewers with an average feeling. The second half pace picks up to an extent and the hilarious scenes between Sundar's father and the family members evoke few laughs. But whenever viewers expected comedy to reach the next level, the next scene turns out to be emotional, giving movie lovers a mixed feeling. Most of the second half is loaded with a heavy dosage of emotions and sentiments with comedy taking a back seat. The story finally ends on an emotional note.

Nani did the role tailor-made for him. He showed variations in his expressions and emotions. He did well as a frustrated youngster pressurized by his orthodox family. He displayed good body language in the emotional scenes. His scenes featuring Naresh, Harshavardhan, Rahul Ramakrishna, and others appeal to all. Nazriya complimented him well with her performance. This is a perfect debut for her in Tollywood. She shone in the emotional scenes. However, she looked jaded at times. Nani and Nazriya's chemistry especially in the second half played a vital role in the film's final output. Naresh as usual performed and he stole the show after Naresh with his expressions and body language. Nadiya got a limited screen presence and she performed well. Rohini displayed good emotions and so too Azhagam Perumal . Aruna Bikshu excelled in the role of Nani's grandmother. Rahul Ramakrishna is good in his role and Anupama Parameswaran did her part quite well.

Director Vivek Athreya chose a predictable story and tried to entertain viewers by balancing the hilarious and emotional elements with his screenplay and direction. However, in the process, emotional elements outweighed the hilarious elements. His non-linear screenplay many times ended up confusing the viewers. He concentrated more on the hero's religious sentiments and customs and played it safe when it came to dealing with the religious customs of the heroine. He wasted most of the time, stressing the point that hero's family is orthodox. This affected the tempo of the film very badly. Even the romantic track of the hero and heroine is not established in an appealing manner to attract the youngsters.

Vivek Sagar's music failed to make an impact. There are only a couple of songs and they fail to register in the minds of the viewers. His background music is good and he took the viewers into the story along with him. Niketh Bommi's cinematography beautified the film by adding colors. Raviteja Girijala failed to use his editing scissors and this turned the film extremely lengthy. Production values are good.

Rating Analysis

Director Vivek Athreya's Ante Sundaraniki with Nani had the opportunity to become another Bhale Bhale Magadivoy. However, Vivek Sagar powering the film more on emotions toning down the hilarious content, dragging the film in the name of highlighting the childhood of the lead pair, toning down the romantic track, and confusing the viewers with the non-linear screenplay, impacted the film ultimately. Considering all these aspects, CJ goest with a 2.5 rating for Ante Sundaraniki.
