Bollywood Actor Rajkumar Rao’s Hindi film, Newton will be India’s official entry to the most prestigious Oscar Awards to compete in Best Foreign Film language category. Interestingly, the movie is releasing today itself and has got the honor on first day itself.
FFI selection committee headed by Telugu producer CV Reddy made this announcement. Reddy said that Newton was unanimous choice. The jury consisting of 14 members saw 26 films from various film industries before picking this one.
Newton is a political satire starring Rajkumar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil and Raghubir Yadav in important roles. Newton revolves around an officer who is on a mission to hold free and fair elections in a Naxalite controlled village in Chhattisgarh.
Newton had its world premiere in the Forum section of the 67th Berlin International Film Festival and is set to have its North American premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival where it screens in the International Narrative Competition section.
