Telugu heartthrob Chiranjeevi,Mammooty,Kamal and Rajnikant,known for their unique style of acting continue to ramp up box office collections,despite the economic melt down.A joint study conducted by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Ernst & Young reported that the South Indian films generated Rs 17.3 billions in 2008 and 2009 to date.The study,"Indian entertainment Down South: From Script to Screen",released in Chennai recently said the profits the South earned easily dwarfed the Bollywood revenue.
The industry is constantly inducting new faces,directors and input of technology.The South Indian film industry is doing brisk business despite the financial crisis India is facing.Tamil Film Producers Council president Rama Narayanan said last year the 230 Telugu films released contributed $ 190 million and second largest was the Tamil segment,with 50,with similar earnings.The overall Indian film industry,according to an earlier FICCI estimate,was pegged at $2.2 billion in 2008.
