Is the Mass Film Craze Hurting Tier 2 Heroes?

There was a time when a hero doing a mass or larger than life film felt special. But today, almost every Tier 2 hero seems to be chasing the same template with huge action blocks, bigger worlds, mass elevations and pan India ambitions.

The trend is particularly visible with films like The Paradise and Ranabaali. Both films highlight the risks involved when a hero's market is stretched to match the scale of the project.

Although The Paradise registered career best numbers for Nani, the film reportedly ended its theatrical run with around Rs 160 crore worldwide gross against a break even target of nearly Rs 200 crore, making it a commercial disappointment.

It is still too early to arrive at a verdict on Ranabaali. However, the Vijay Deverakonda starrer reportedly needs around Rs 120 crore worldwide gross to reach its theatrical break even point. This means the film needs to register career best numbers for Vijay to meet its target.

Despite these risks, the trend continues with Sai Durgha Tej's Sambarala Yeti Gattu and Naga Chaitanya's Vrushakarma, which are also mounted on ambitious scales.

The concern is not about making big films, but about whether the theatrical market of these heroes can support such investments. Bigger budgets bring bigger expectations, and even career best collections may not be enough if the break even target is too high.

Are Tier 2 heroes expanding their market, or are they taking bigger risks than their market can handle?
