Mirzapur The Movie Aiming For A Certificate

Director Gurmmeet Singh confirmed Mirzapur: The Movie will target an Adults Only 'A' certificate from CBFC. Speaking to Variety India, he said the team is following guidelines on language and content. The goal is to keep the raw tone of the series intact for theatres.
Produced by Excel Entertainment and Amazon MGM Studios, the film brings back Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Rasika Dugal, Shweta Tripathi Sharma and Abhishek Banerjee. Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani are producing. Puneet Krishna has written the screenplay, evolving it for a cinematic experience.
Singh said audiences have matured and recent hits like Animal and Dhurandhar proved adult dramas work on big screens. He believes this trend set a precedent for Mirzapur to release without watering down violence, politics and dark humor that made the series popular on Prime Video.
The film will subvert some expectations while bringing back fan favorite moments in a new way. With a September 4, 2026 release date, Mirzapur: The Movie aims to expand the franchise from streaming to theatres with larger scale, practical sets and the same gritty Uttar Pradesh backdrop.
