Akshaye Khanna Takes On Mythology With Powerful Shukracharya Role

Akshaye Khanna is trying something new after his hit film Dhurandhar. He will play Shukracharya in Mahakali, his first Telugu film. The movie is a mythological superhero action film directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru. It is part of Prasanth Varma’s Cinematic Universe. Akshaye plays the guru of Asuras who stands against the main hero played by Bhoomi Shetty. Online talk says he joined the project in May 2025 because the character felt fresh and deep.
People close to the film say Akshaye was drawn to Shukracharya’s story. In Indian stories, Shukracharya is the teacher of demons and brings dead Asuras back to life. He is not seen as fully evil, just very wise and on the other side of the fight. Akshaye liked that the role is not simple or black and white. He is known for choosing scripts carefully, and this one caught his eye. Many fans online are now looking up who Shukracharya was and sharing old mythological facts.
The Mahakali team shot a big schedule from February to April this year. The last part of shooting is happening in Kolkata. On May 9, they filmed near Dakshineswar Temple. The team plans to finish all filming by July. This film adds to Prasanth Varma’s growing superhero world after his earlier hits. Akshaye is also doing a courtroom drama called Ikka with Sunny Deol, which will come on Netflix.
With Mahakali, Akshaye Khanna steps into Telugu cinema for the first time and into a mythological role too. The film mixes myth with superhero action, and that is making it one of the most talked about projects right now. More updates on the first look and release date should come soon.
