A Chandigarh district court has issued a notice to actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut regarding her upcoming film "Emergency," following a complaint alleging that the film misrepresents and defames the Sikh community.

Advocate Ravinder Singh Bassi, a former president of the District Bar Association, filed the application, claiming that the film portrays a negative image of Sikhs and contains false allegations against the community. He has requested the court to order the registration of an FIR against Ranaut under sections related to inciting religious hatred and promoting enmity between communities.

The petition highlights the deep offense felt by the Sikh community, stating that "the actions of the defendant (Kangana) have hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community." The court has scheduled a hearing on December 5th to further consider the matter.

Adding to the controversy surrounding the film, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has yet to issue a certificate for "Emergency," leading to its delayed release. This has prompted intervention from the Madhya Pradesh High Court, directing the CBFC to consider objections raised by Sikh groups before certifying the film.

Sikh organizations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, have voiced strong criticism of the film, accusing it of presenting a distorted and factually inaccurate portrayal of the community.

Kangana Ranaut, who wrote and co-produced the film, has also faced backlash for her comments about censorship. She recently stated that OTT platforms require censorship more than films, advocating for a review of the current censorship regulations.

The controversy surrounding "Emergency" continues to escalate, with potential for further legal and social repercussions. The upcoming court hearing on December 5th will be a crucial step in addressing the concerns raised by the Sikh community and determining the fate of the film's release.
