Actress Vidya Balan has paid a poignant tribute to the legendary musician M.S. Subbulakshmi on her 108th birth anniversary. The actress took to Instagram to share an array of pictures dressed as M.S. Subbulakshmi, recreating some of the iconic looks of the late musician. Collaborating with costume designer Anu Parthasarathy, Vidya's photographic tribute honored M.S. Subbulakshmi's legacy as the "Queen of Music" and "Nightingale of India."

In her caption, Vidya expressed her joy and honor in paying homage to M.S. Subbulakshmi, highlighting the musician's simplicity and elegance. The photographic feature showcases four sarees popularized by M.S. Subbulakshmi between the 1960s and 1980s, capturing her concert persona. Vidya also acknowledged the significance of M.S. Subbulakshmi's traditional accessories, including kumkumam, vibhuti, nose pins, and jasmine-adorned kondain.

Vidya extended gratitude to renowned flautist Sikkil Mala, granddaughter-in-law of M.S. Subbulakshmi, for her guidance and insights. She also thanked Anu Parthasarathy for conceptualizing the tribute and patiently working on it for seven years. M.S. Subbulakshmi's remarkable legacy includes being the first musician to receive the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor.

As a pioneering vocalist and actress, M.S. Subbulakshmi left an indelible mark on Indian music and cinema. Born in Madurai, she was also the first Indian to perform at the United Nations General Assembly in 1966. Vidya Balan's tribute serves as a reminder of M.S.
