Akshay Kumar who has been suffering continuous flops has pinned his hopes on his latest film Sarfira which is a remake of Suriya's award winning film Soorarai Pottru. The film was released on July 12 along with Kamal Haasan, Shankar's Indian 2 / Hindustani 2 / Bharateeyudu 2. Even though Sarfira generated positive buzz the film has minted just about Rs 2.4 crore at the box-office on Day 1.

It is among the lowest openings for Akshay as his last film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan opened at Rs 16.07 crore which was released on Eid. Sarfira registers even lesser collections than Akshay's recent film's openings, Selfiee draws Rs 2.55 crores on its first day. Mission Raniganj minted Rs 2.8 crore on the first day.

In the post-pandemic era, Akshay’s films have struggle to hold their mark at the box-office. Apart from OMG 2 (2023) and Sooryavanshi (2021), none of his films were hits. A total of 10 films got released in theatres apart from 3 direct to OTT Releases. Only two films turned out to be boxoffice out of 10 theatrical releases.

Sarfira is directed by Sudha Kongara and also stars Paresh Rawal and Radhikka Madan in pivotal roles. After Sarfira, Akshay will be seen in Khel Khel Mein, Sky Force, Singham Again, Jolly LLB 3, Welcome to the Jungle, Shankara, Hera Pheri 3, and Housefull 4.
