Bollywood's much-anticipated releases for the new year are facing a series of setbacks, leaving industry watchers disappointed. Films like 'Bade Miya  Chote Miya' and 'Maidan', once touted to dominate the summer box office, have stumbled, with 'Bade Miya Chote Miya' struggling to even secure minimum openings amidst negative reviews, while 'Maidan', despite positive word-of-mouth, has surprisingly failed to draw significant collections.

Adding to the gloom, there's a noticeable dearth of excitement surrounding the upcoming projects of Bollywood's leading stars. Shah Rukh Khan, who delighted fans with three releases last year, is notably absent from this year's lineup. Similarly, there's no news of Salman Khan or Aamir Khan gracing the screens in 2024, leaving the expectations for other Bollywood stars relatively muted.

In this landscape, the hopes of the North Indian box office now pivot on South Indian cinema. Distributors and exhibitors are pinning their hopes on the slew of South Indian releases slated for the latter half of the year to reinvigorate box office numbers. Leading the charge is Prabhas' eagerly awaited film 'Kalki 2898 AD', set for a pan-India release at the end of June, poised to match the box office prowess of top Bollywood stars in the North.

The anticipation is palpable for Allu Arjun's  'Pushpa-2', scheduled for release in August, with expectations soaring sky-high for its Hindi rendition. Additionally, the releases of Ram Charan's 'Game Changer', NTR's 'Devara', and Surya's 'Kanguva' are generating considerable buzz in North India. As the year progresses, it appears that South Indian cinema may well emerge as the savior of the Bollywood box office, especially in the latter half of the year.
