Kollywood celebs donate and speed relief work for Chennai Michaung victims. Cyclone Michaung has wreaked havoc in the city of Chennai and other areas on the South-East coast of India, causing severe flooding and disruption. In response to the crisis, Tamil actors Suriya and Karthi have taken the lead by pledging an initial sum of Rs 10 lakh to support relief efforts across the affected districts, including Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, and Tiruvallur. The actors are mobilizing assistance through their fan clubs to aid those affected by the devastating floods.
Trade expert Manobala V highlighted the generous contribution of Suriya and Karthi, emphasizing the urgency of relief work in the flood-affected regions. He shared the news on X, underlining the actors' commitment to providing immediate assistance during this challenging time.
Amidst the crisis, renowned figures such as Kamal Haasan and Vishal have also stepped forward to contribute to relief activities. Kamal Haasan emphasized the importance of collaboration between the public and the government to stabilize the situation, recognizing that the impact of natural disasters can only be mitigated to a certain extent through precautionary measures.
Vishal, while actively participating in relief efforts, criticized the inaction of the Chennai Mayor. His dual role of aiding in relief activities and holding officials accountable underscores the multifaceted response required to address the aftermath of the cyclone.
The heavy rainfall led to severe flooding in various parts of Chennai, affecting public life and causing distress among residents. Popular locations such as Marina Beach witnessed significant inundation, while vital roads connecting Mount Road to Marina Beach became impassable due to waterlogging.
The state government issued a red alert in response to the forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall, urging residents to take precautionary measures. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin acknowledged the unprecedented nature of the rainfall, surpassing levels seen in 2015. He called upon relief organizations to collaborate with the government, pledging a request for Rs 5,000 crore in relief assistance from the central government to address storm and rain damage.
Tragically, the cyclone has claimed eight lives, and numerous roads and subways remain closed due to severe waterlogging. As Cyclone Michaung approaches landfall on the southern coast of Andhra Pradesh, the government and relief organizations are intensifying efforts to minimize further damage and provide crucial assistance to those affected.
