Vamsy, the filmmaker who made his debut in 80's has carved a niche for himself. His portrayal of villages surrounding Godavari region and it's characters left a lasting imprint in the hearts of Telugu film audiences. Vamsy carries a seperate mark which resembles very rare filmmakers like Bapu, and K Viswanath. But, unlike them Vamsy made films in different genres leaving an indelible mark of his own.

Vamsy is a writer and has a very strong writing background. He started writing stories at the age of 15. His first story, "Satya Sundari Navvindi", was read on All India Radio in 1975. He wrote two novels, "Manchu Pallaki" and "Karma Sakshi", which were published in Andhra Jyothy Weekly before beginning his film career. Vamsy worked as assistant director for Madhusudhana Rao, K. Viswanath on Sankarabharanam, Bharathiraja on Seethakoka Chilaka.

In 1982, he made his directorial debut with 'Manchupallaki', starring Chiranjeevi, Suhasini, Tripuraneni Sai Chand and Rajendra Prasad. He got a big break with his second film, Vamsy 'Sitaara', which starred Bhanupriya. The movie was adapted from Vamsy's own novel Mahal lo Kokila. The movie won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu. His 'Anveshana' is considered as one of the best thrillers of all-time from Tollywood. His collaboration with Rajendra Prasad delivered cult films like 'Ladies Tailor', 'Chettu Kinda Pleader', and 'April 1 Vidudala'.

For major part of his career, Vamsy collaborated with the music director Ilayaraja. Timeless classics were delivered in their combination. Later on he worked with music director late Chakri. He has delivered Superhits like 'Avunu Vaalliddaru Ishtapaddaru' and 'Gopi Gopika Godavari' in 2000's. He has a knack for selecting unique titles for his films.
