The Indian Space Research Organization has entered into an investigation mode after losing contact with the Chandrayaan-2 Lander Vikram. ISRO lost touch with the Vikram Lander minutes before it was to land near the south pole of the Moon.

The status of Chandrayaan 2 mission is unknown hours after Lander Vikram lost contact with ground control around 2.1 km from the lunar surface. A dejected ISRO chairman K Sivan briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was at the ISRO headquarters to witness what would have been a historic feat. Sivan also told media persons that ISRO was analyzing the data last sent by the Lander.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi told ISRO scientists: "When it comes to our space programme, the best is yet to come. We will rise to the occasion. To our scientists I want to say- the whole country is with you. You have given your best always.

Resilience & tenacity are central to India’s ethos. In our glorious history, we have faced moments that may have slowed us but they have never crushed our spirit. We have bounced back again & gone on to do spectacular things. This is why our civilisation stands tall."

Modi after addressing ISRO and the nation lent a sympathetic shoulder to a desolate ISRO chief K Sivan who broke down as he bid farewell to the PM. However, Modi immediately hugged him and consoled him.
